From Joe to Carola to Deborah
You are about to experience the lineage approach to Pilates teaching that comes directly from Joseph Pilates and Carola Trier, passed on to Deborah Lessen who has nurtured this lineage with careful continuance of tradition combined with evolution.
You will be exploring the original work that Joseph Pilates taught to his first protege Carola Trier blended with contemporary practice that Deborah has helped lead over the decades of her teaching and guiding the industry. Your will be learning about this essential Pilates historical lineage as it was lived, taught, and passed on, and how it has thrived in the hands of Deborah Lessen and her teachings.
Deborah brings an extraordinary combination of direct lineage, movement intelligence, and decades of leadership in education, standards, and advocacy. Deborah has continued and, where necessary only, evolved this model into a strong, current teaching paradigm. Bringing the Trier lineage forward and aligning it with our modern needs, Deborah’s training is aimed at making teachers the best they can be, deepening understanding and enhancing skills and knowledge.
The Lineage
Deborah’s formal Pilates education began with Carola Trier in New York City, where she not only studied but apprenticed and worked in Carola’s studio.
Carola was known for her high standards of teaching integrity, her refined approach to movement precision, and her role in establishing a rigorous, individualized studio model that echoed the ethos of Joseph Pilates’ original work.
This apprenticeship under Carola — who herself blended Pilates work with anatomical insight and rehabilitative observation — provided Deborah with deep experiential training both technically and pedagogically, shaping her later work as a teacher of teachers.
This Training
This course is for already trained Pilates teachers. We aim to expand and deepen your teaching, with specific lineage repertoire, approach and insights, honed by Deborah Lessen over her many decades of teaching and leading the Pilates profession globally. Consider this in the vein of mentoring and continued education.
Deborah takes Carola’s legacy forward with integrity plus modern values and this is your opportunity to layer the Trier-Lessen approach in to your existing practice and teaching.
Course Completion
Full completion requires you to:
- Complete all online curriculum including quizzes and activities
- Complete all contact sessions with a DLP Educator
- Complete final assessment activity
Alternatively, you are welcome to undertake the live contact sessions individually and do partial completion. You will receive recognition of attendance and completion of the components you undertake. Full completion will provide a Certification of Deborah Lessen Lineage Training.
